Wor Flags set to take over the East Stand against Brighton as they urge everyone to do 'their bit'

Newcastle United supporters sitting in the East Stand of St James’ Park are being urged to make full use of the flags some supporters will find left in their seat ahead of Saturday’s game with Brighton.

Supporters’ group Wor Flags have been busy planning their next display and after requests on social media have decided to venture into the East Stand. In recent weeks displays have been held in the Leazes End and the groups’ traditional home, the Gallowgate, and both stands will once again form part of a big show ahead of kick-off.

Those sitting in the East Stand will be handed the black and white wavers, while those in both the Leazes and Gallowgate - if everything goes to plan - will hold up a display of support for the club and Eddie Howe with items placed on their seats.

A spokesman for Wor Flags told Chronicle Live about the plans: “We’ve never ventured as far as the East Stand in our displays and with such a big game coming up, we thought 'why not'? The East Stand will be packed with flags, both small and big, and we’d encourage anyone with a flag in their vicinity to wave one.

“The Gallowgate and the Leazes never let us down, and we’re sure the East Stand won’t either. The Leazes has been a big help to us in expanding the displays, and on Saturday we have something prepared that’ll include everyone in the Gallowgate and the Leazes.

“It’s important to the display that people are in their seats in good time before kick-off. We can’t thank everyone enough for the help and support we have received. Let’s do our bit! ”

Newcastle fans across the world have applauded the return of Wor Flags to the stands. The group had not attended a game for well over 18 months after the departure of Rafa Benitez as Newcastle manager but, following the sale of the club to the Saudi backed consortium, they returned to the stands for the game against Tottenham.

That game saw Steve Bruce in charge and it would turn out to be his final game at Newcastle. Eddie Howe replaced him and earlier this week praised the atmosphere at games.

Howe admitted to Football Focus that he did not expect a banner of his own, which was unveiled at the game against Norwich City. When asked about Howe’s comments, Wor Flags said: “Eddie Howe came in with a mammoth task ahead of him and he has proven already that he is up to the job.

“To have us in the position we are currently in, from where we were, is nothing short of sensational and long may it continue. We just wanted to show our support to say we are behind him and the lads, and we will be until the very end.”

Wor Flags urges every fan to get involved on Saturday but do remind fans not to take any of the flags home.
