A 30-year-old woman has died and six children have been injured after a car and truck collided in the Wheatbelt this morning.
Police say the children, who were passengers in a Kia Carnival and believed to be aged between one and 14 years old, were taken to Perth Children's Hospital after the crash.
A spokesperson for the hospital said two of the children were in a critical condition and the other four were stable.
The female driver of the Kia died at the scene while the 58-year-old male driver of a cement truck was not seriously injured, but was taken to Northam Hospital as a precaution.
'Lives changed in an instant'
A WA police spokesperson said the crash was a tragic reminder of how the lives of so many people can be changed in an instant.
"In addition to the tragic loss of life in this crash, there are six children and the driver of the truck who have all personally experienced a traumatic event and will need ongoing support," the spokesperson said.
"Incidents like this also impact on the police officers and other emergency responders who attend the scene, and who provide ongoing care to those involved.
"While the circumstances surrounding this crash are still under investigation, it is clear something has gone wrong, and in that split second it has ended in tragedy."
"We urge all motorists to take care on the roads."
Police said the crash happened around 6:15am on Goomalling-Toodyay Road in Wongamine, between Toodyay and Goomalling.
Firefighters were sent to the scene to free people trapped in the vehicles and a rescue helicopter transported some of the children to hospital.
Officers from Major Crash are investigating.
Police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash, or anyone who has dashcam vision, to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online.
