'Won't mind' - Manchester United sent message as James Garner stars in Bristol City victory

Nottingham Forest fans are in a positive mood after Steve Cooper's side gained ground on the Championship play-off spots with a 2-0 win over Bristol City.

Fulham, Bournemouth, Huddersfield Town, Luton Town and Forest were the only teams in the top ten who managed to secure three points as defeats for Sheffield United and Middlesbrough saw them also slip up.

It means Forest are now just three points behind the play-off spots with 13 games still to be played.

Brennan Johnson opened the scoring for Cooper 's side when he picked the ball up outside the penalty area, pushed forward and struck a low shot across Daniel Bentley into the bottom corner.

James Garner doubled the home side's lead five minutes to capitalise on the Reds' one-way traffic as he rammed Max Lowe's pull-back past Bentley from the edge of the box.

And it was Garner's brilliant performance in midfield that was the main talking point for Forest fans at full-time. Here's what some had to say after the game on social media...

@Hally256: Garner. MOTM. That is all.

@sammiej8787: James Garner has got a very big future! Class again today!

@TheMadRed117: Sign Garner on a permanent NOW!!

@LeeAndre1865: Garner threading it through the eye of a needle is quite majestic

@HalpinJamie: Gonna proper upset me when Garner leaves

@AndrewBrookes84: Mightily impressive after a couple of flat performances. Cooper pulls one out of the hat again

@alex_iskander: That’ll do! Could have scored more but 3 points all the same. And a clean sheet. Still in the chase

@dj_zotov: Wonder if we can convince Jimmy this is his new home now? I'm sure Man Utd won't mind....

@Brummie_Tricky: Good win and a great performance. Spence and Garner are magic

@J_reilly31: Worrall, Cook and McKenna absolutely solid again. Spence did a Spence. Colback outstanding. James Garner in the form of his life.
