Rachel Daly, 30, from Harrogate, is a defender for the England women's national football team and is playing in the UEFA Women's Euros this year.
Born December 6, 1991, in a family of staunch Leeds supporters, Daly was immediately immersed in the world of football by her late father Martyn, mother Louise, and later her step-father Jim, and elder brother Andy. She described them as “big influences” in her career.
Daly has been living in the US for eight years and is currently on loan at Houston Dash, a professional American soccer team based in Houston, Texas, where she is captain. Prior to moving to New York City to pursue a degree she played for Leeds United and Lincoln Ladies in her early career.

As a forward for Houston Dash, Daly has scored 33 goals in 96 NWSL appearances, Leeds Live reports. Since 2016 Daly has represented England women throughout the youth ranks and senior side. She has 53 caps for the Lionesses and eight senior goals.
Speaking about her early life, Daly told FA: “That’s how it started, from as early as I can remember, I always used to kick a ball about with the other younger siblings when I was watching my brother and my dad’s games for Killinghall Nomads.
She added: “My dad Martyn and brother Andy, who was three years older, would practise in the back garden at home with me and I’d also play in the street with the other kids.”
Daly lost her father Martyn last year who she has said was a massive influence on her career. He was a dedicated Whites fan.
Ahead of the Euros, on July 4, Daly tweeted to her followers: “Bye for now. The tournament is finally here! Being present during this month is vital, so for me I will be coming off social media! Posts will be made on my behalf & I will get back to you all when I return! Can’t wait to see you all & we hope to inspire the nation this summer!”
Daly is playing alongside Lioness defenders Millie Bright, Lucy Bronze, Jess Carter, Alex Greenwood, Demi Stokes, and Lotte Wubben-Moy. Leah Williamson is the team’s captain, under their manager Sarina Wiegman.
