Every year, March 8th is celebrated as International Women's Day. But do you know why we have a special day dedicated to honour and celebrating women? It was in the early 20th century when women in many countries started protests and marches in order to demand equality in pay and working conditions. In the year 1908, roughly 15,000 women protested and marched through New York City in the United States of America to demand better pay and working environments, the right to vote, and much more. And so, the following year on February 28th the first-ever National Women's Day was observed in the USA.
Over the years, International Women's Day is being celebrated in many countries the world over. And while it marks celebrating women and womanhood, it also highlights gender inequality and other challenges women face even today. Ultimately, each year International Women's Day is also an annual reminder that the fight for women's rights is an ongoing process. And that, all of us have an important role to play in creating a better and more equitable world for all.
On the occasion of International Women's Day today, here we list down some powerful quotes by famous authors to celebrate this special day. You can share these with your friends and family, and the women in your lives or post them on social media too.
