Women’s Ashes: England and Australia share points as Second T20 washed out

England and Australia were forced to share the points as rain caused the second Women’s Ashes T20 to be abandoned after just 4.1 overs.

The multi-format series, which consists of three T20s and three ODIs, each worth two points, as well as a one-off Test match, worth four, began with an Australian victory in the opening game on Thursday.

England were looking to strike back after Tahlia McGrath’s heroic all-round display had seen the home side to a nine-wicket victory at the Adelaide Oval.

Initially, rain at the same venue delayed the toss and reduced the match to 14 overs per side.

As in the first game, Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first, with England openers Tammy Beaumont and Danni Wyatt - who had put on 82 for the first wicket two days previously - shared an unbroken stand of 25 before heavy rain returned and forced the match to be abandoned.

The third and final T20 takes place in Adelaide on Sunday, before the series moves to Canberra for the four-day Test match, which starts late on Wednesday night in the UK.
