Tammy Beaumont and Lauren Filer return to England’s Ashes squad as Heather Knight’s side prepare to continue their quest for a remarkable comeback in Bristol on Wednesday.
Australia remain just one win away from regaining the Urn but England have been buoyed by consecutive T20 victories in London in the last week, which have pegged the series scoreline back to 6-4.
Beaumont and Filer each impressed in the one-off Test that opened the series at Trent Bridge, the opening batter scoring the first Test double-hundred by an English woman, while fast-bowler Filer took four wickets on international debut and could make her ODI bow.
The pair were left out of the subsequent T20s, but have been recalled for the three ODIs, with Maia Bouchier, Freya Davies and Lauren Winfield-Hill dropping out of the squad, though of those only Davies played any part in the T20 series.
There is also no place for Emma Lamb, who has opened the batting in all-but one of England’s ODIs since the start of last summer, meaning Danni Wyatt is likely to return to partnering Beaumont at the top of the order.
“Tammy showed her quality during the Test match with her double-hundred while Lauren offers us real pace in our bowling alongside Issy [Wong],” head coach Jon Lewis said.
All three ODIs are sold out, with Southampton and Taunton due to host the second and third games, respectively. There are two points on offer in each match, with those shared in the event of a tie or no-result, meaning England must win at least twice and go unbeaten in the series against the world champions to win back the Urn.
