According to a report by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), the number of UK women who are single and undergoing fertility treatment has more than trebled in a decade.
In total, 4,800 women without a partner had in vitro fertilisation (IVF) or donor insemination (DI) treatment in 2022. This represents a 243% increase from the 1,400 single women who had fertility treatment in 2012.
The number of women in a same-sex couple has also more than doubled, with the number of women in a heterosexual couple having treatment has also increased, but only slightly from 45,300 to 47,000.
