BRITAIN’S only all-male council has elected its first female councillors.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CnES) previously held the dubious title of the only single-gender local authority in the UK.
Frances Murray and Susan Thomson, both for the SNP, were the two women who made Hebridean history on Friday.
CnES remains dominated by independents, with 20 non-affiliated councillors elected, and the SNP are the biggest party with six councillors.
The Tories have one councillor on the local authority and two seats remain up for grabs due to a shortage of people willing to run for election.
The council returned a host of all-male representatives in 2017 but previously had female representation in 2012.
