Woman with suspected head injury rescued from Wicklow hiking spot

A woman was rescued after sustaining a suspected head injury at a popular hiking spot.

The Dublin-Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team rushed to help the victim who was injured in Glendalough. The woman was quickly handed over to an awaiting ambulance from the NAS for further care.

Summer has kicked off to a busy start with the mountain rescue team being called to multiple emergency incidents in the first week of June. The team received two callouts on Bank Holiday Monday.

The first one was the Brockaghs to treat and transport a patient with a lower leg injury. The second callout, which came in later that day, was about a group of lost walkers.

The rescue team managed to find the lost walkers and helped them off a hill. On June 6, the emergency service undertook a search in Kanturk Mountain for a patient with a lower leg injury in an area with very limited phone coverage.

Thankfully, the person was found following a multi-agency search and was helped off the mountain.

A DWMRT spokesperson said on Facebook: "This brings us up to 41 callouts for 2023. Our team expects another busy summer ahead, it's what we train for; for those out enjoying the trails and mountains of Dublin/Wicklow - always be sure to have a charged Phone & some extra clothing packed away incase of an accident while out on the hill.

"If you do require assistance while out exploring the wilderness around Dublin and Wicklow; dial 112/999. Our dedicated team of volunteers will be on hand to help 24/7, 365 days a year."
