A woman who hasn't turned the heating on in four years has shared her 'clever' oven trick for keeping the house warm - and it only costs a few quid. Klaire, who regularly shares money-saving advice to her Tik Tok account @klairedelysofficial, says the trick can make a 'huge difference' for those trying to cut back on energy costs.
In the video, she advices putting a wire rack with three bricks on top in the bottom of the oven. When cooking, the bricks will heat up and can be used once the oven is turned off to keep the house warmer for longer.
As reported by Birmingham Live, Klaire said: "One of the things that I do every winter, is whenever I'm cooking in the oven, or at least at the beginning of winter, what I do is I get three bricks and I put them on a stand like this. I just use one of those wire cookie trays, just one from Poundland, they're not expensive.
She then advised to ensure the bricks aren't wet, which could cause an accident. Klaire also warns against using stones or rocks, which can become too hot or explode.
She said: "The reason I put bricks in the oven is because those bricks heat up during the cooking.
"Then when you're finished cooking and you've turned everything off and opened the door, those bricks are hot and will keep the heat a lot longer than the actual oven."
"It might only be an extra 15/20 minutes of heat radiating out but when you don't have any kind of central heating, those 20 minutes make a huge, huge difference," Klaire added.
