The second victim of a horrifying crash that left two dead has been named locally.
Sligo IT alumni Liga Smolaka died alongside Daniel Dolphin in the single vehicle collision in Co Roscommon in the early hours of Friday morning.
Another person was injured in the smash and was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but 27-year-old Daniel was pronounced dead on arrival.
Liga, 35, was taken to Castlebar Hospital but sadly died a short time later.
Tributes have been pouring in for both who were described by individuals respectfully as a "beautiful young woman taken too soon" and a "talented footballer with his whole life ahead of him", Galway Beo reports.
One person who knew Liga told Galway Beo: "I can't say we were good friends or so, but we knew each other. She was such a lovely girl. It's just so bad, such a loss at a young age."
While a close friend of Daniel's also said: “Sincere condolences to Sean and the whole Dolphin family on the tragic loss of Daniel. He will always be remembered by us all as a great footballer and great character to be around. We had many a laugh in Ballymote RIP Daniel.”
Local football club Ballymote Celtic also shared a message of condolence for the young man as they wrote on Facebook: “Ballymote Celtic would like to offer their deepest condolences to the Dolphin family on the tragic death of Daniel. Daniel played underage football for the club and also played for the senior team. RIP Daniel.”
