Woman welcomes 'miracle' quintuplets after being told she couldn't have babies

A woman has welcomed 'miracle' quintuplets after doctors told her she was infertile.

Brenda Raymundo, 28, and her husband Alejandro, also 28, spent years trying for a family but after no success were devastated when she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome - a condition that prevents the ovaries from producing eggs.

However the determined couple sought help from fertility specialists and Brenda was given a drug to help stimulate her ovaries into producing eggs.

Two months later the couple finally got the news they had been longing for when doctors told them Brenda was pregnant.

However, shortly after the great news Brenda was rushed to hospital over fears she was suffering from a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy - where the baby develops in the fallopian tube instead of the womb.

The next week when Brenda went back for a check-up scan, she saw what looked like five bubbles of air on the scan.

The sonographer then told the stunned couple there were five babies in the womb, not one.

Brenda, from Dallas, Texas in the US, gave birth to the healthy quintuplets in May.

The new mum-of-five told The Sun : "No-one expects to be told one week that they are pregnant with one baby, and then the following week find out there are actually five in there."

Brenda went for a scan every week because it was a high-risk pregnancy - and had to go alone because of Covid restrictions.

The five babies were born on May 17: Alejandro weighing 3Ib14, Lelani at 3Ibs, Amara at 3Ib3, Antonio at 3Ib8, and Humberto at 3Ib12.

She said: "They were all good weights for quins, and they were healthy too, which was amazing news. We felt so lucky."

After weeks in hospital all of the babies came home by the end of July and are now thriving at home.

Brenda added: "When I thought I would never be a mum, I never thought that five would come along all at once.

"We don’t get any sleep, but we couldn’t be happier and wouldn’t change it for the world. We feel blessed five times over."
