Woman transforms drab motorhome into Barbie paradise with Amazon bargains

A couple has transformed a drab motorhome into a pink Barbie paradise on wheels.

Ariana Dewing, 33, from California, US, revamped the dated and worn looking motorhome into a perfectly pink Barbie home in August 2020 with the help of her husband Eric, 56.

Four weeks and £1600 [$2000] later and the renovation was complete, allowing dancer Ariana and set designer Eric to spend their days travelling across the US whilst both working.

"My husband Eric has always grown up with RV's and he knew the only way to persuade me to live in one was to make it pink and glamorous," Ariana explains.

"Being a ballerina, I just love pink aesthetics, I didn't want a brown and boring one so Eric knew how to make my dreams come to life, he is very creative and good at what he does."

"I have always loved barbie since I was young," she said, "but my parents didn't let me play with them until I was around 12, so when I finally got one I appreciated her even more.

"Even as a teen I thought it was cool, even when my friends had outgrown them I still loved them."

However, it was never meant to be a Barbie replica Camper. It was just a cute pink motorhome until one day when they were parked up, a four-year-old girl knocked on the door and asked her if this was the real barbie camper.

"I told her it was and invited her in to have a look with her parents," Ariana said.

"From there it became the Barbie RV and we got some barbie cushions to go with it and changed the name on Instagram and people love it.

"I always get messages from people on Instagram telling us they have seen us on the road, and we always get people beeping at us too.

"People love it and can't believe it when they see it, they show genuine joy. We didn't expect these types of reactions as we just did it for ourselves."

Ariana and her husband live full time in their truly transformed pink motorhome since August 2020, as the RV lifestyle attracted them because of their careers, being able to be on the road at all times and tour the states easily.

Ariana adds: "We park in RV parks wherever we are and we have a membership which permits us to use certain RV parks.

"It means we can go without a plan and visit anywhere in the US.

"We have driven across the US from California to Florida three times in one year, for multiple different performances and tours.

"My favourite place I have visited has been the River Bend Hot Springs in New Mexico.

"It may look fun, but it isn't always as glamorous.

"We spend up to $400 a month on gas, it can be quite expensive, especially with the prices at the minute.

"It gets exhausting having to find new places to park up, sometimes we park up on the side of the road but we have to make sure it doesn't look like we are camping.

"I love living here though, we also have a cat who comes everywhere with us named Gelsey, she is a real road warrior.

"I have been praying for this for so long, I'm so grateful it has finally happened.

"When I was younger, I would tell my dad I wanted to be a ballerina and tour around in a pink RV, I was so serious about it and here I am.

"He is so proud and tells everyone about my life."

The renovation cost $2,000 (£1,600) in total thanks to their bargain Amazon finds, Ariana explained, as they purchased most of their furnishings from there.

"Our dream is to buy land and create a beautiful glamorous themed pink RV park with RealBarbieRVs available to rent, for everyone to experience the joy of living in pink," she said.

The couple has documented their home renovations through their YouTube and Instagram pages.
