A woman will face court accused of leading police on a high-speed car chase while drug-affected and before crashing into the front yard of a house, south of Sydney.

The drama unfolded after highway patrol officers set off after a stolen Subaru WRX station wagon when it failed to stop at Barrack Heights in Shell Harbour on Saturday afternoon.

The pursuit allegedly reached speeds of 140km/h in a 50km/h zone before being called off.

Police say the car soon after crashed into a residential property, causing damage to a brick wall.

They say the driver, a 39-year-old woman, and her 43-year-old male passenger were arrested at the scene.

Subjected to drug tests, it's alleged the woman returned positive results to both cannabis and methylamphetamine.

Checks revealed she was also disqualified from holding a drivers license.

The woman has been refused bail and will face Wollongong Local Court on Sunday on a string of charges including taking a vehicle without consent, driving recklessly, furiously or at speed, driving whilst disqualified and possessing a prohibited drug.

The man was charged with riding in a stolen vehicle and possessing a prohibited drug. He has been granted bail to appear in Port Kembla Local Court next month.
