A woman found time to capture the moment her car sank into a frozen river with a quick mid-disaster selfie on the roof of the vehicle.
The unidentified woman posed for a snap on the roof of her yellow sedan as it slowly descended beneath the surface of the Rideau River in Manotick, a suburb of Ottawa, Canada on Sunday.
While she was checking her angles, locals scattered to find a way of rescuing her, eventually grabbing a blue kayak and tying it with rope to drag her out of the massive ice hole.
By the time the kayak arrived, only the roof of her car was visible above the sub-zero water.
According to witnesses who shared videos of the crash on social media, at one point she said: "Oh well. I guess I'll walk."
Police responded to the scene at 4.30pm, and charged her with dangerous driving.
But driving on ice is not actually illegal in the country, where it snows often, the MailOnline reports.
Paramedics also attended but the woman refused treatment, according to Canada's National Post newspaper.
One Twitter user recalled seeing the woman drive past him at speed and "rip by".
He added that he wasn't surprised she ran into trouble on the ice.
A separate video showed the car careening across the frozen river at a high speed.
However, this could've been caused by skidding rather than acceleration.
In a press release, the Ottawa Police Service said: @This portion of the river has thin ice compared to other areas of the river.
"This portion of the river has thin ice compared to other areas of the river,' said the Ottawa Police Service.
"Ice conditions at this time of the year can be unpredictable. The Ottawa Police Service would like to remind residents to stay off the ice and remember 'No Ice is Safe Ice'."
The vehicle remains where it sank in the river. Police have warned it could be a hazard for people curious while wandering around on the ice.
