A woman from London set herself a challenge to travel up to Edinburgh on a very tight budget.
Only using £2 local buses, writer and podcast host Emily Turner only spent £46 in total on a weekend-long trip from London to Edinburgh. The 35-year-old wasted no time and set off on her journey at the crack of dawn on Friday, February 10.
She crossed the border into Scotland by Sunday and spent the afternoon in Edinburgh.

After announcing her plans, she found herself with an influx of new supporters and on the day before she left, Emily tweeted: "Rather amazed by the 1,200-ish new followers I've got for deciding to ride a bunch of buses so can't reply to anything else.
"Need to go to bed now so I can get up at 4ish to start riding buses... will update then if you're an insomniac."
As the Sun reports, she kept her followers updated on her journey through social media, sharing pictures of picturesque landscapes and her meals along the way.
Emily originally said she wanted to spend no more than £35 on travel, but she went slightly over budget. But still, the 400-mile trip only cost £46 all in.
The £2 local bus scheme in England allowed her to save her pennies on travel but it was the buses in Scotland that pushed her budget further. When she was charged £16 on two buses in Scotland, she noted that it showed "what a difference" the initiative makes down south.
Once arriving in Scotland, Emily tweeted: "Sorry - lots of photos but I love this part of the world", she tweeted.
She added: "I wanted to mention that a few very lovely people have messaged me saying they’d like to greet me when I get to Edinburgh.
"This is a really sweet offer, but I think I’d be way too socially awkward to deal with this so please don't!"

Her trip didn't go unnoticed by Lothian Buses either who gifted her a free open top bus tour to celebrate the final day of her trip.
One highlight was a huge plate of nachos from The Auld Hoose, who boast on Twitter: "Home of the Biggest Nachos in Edinburgh - or maybe the world." She joked that she had come to Edinburgh just to try them.
