Woman taken to hospital with head injury after mass brawl in Bolton

A woman was taken to hospital with head injuries after a mass brawl broke out in Bolton.

The incident caused police to close off a section of Rishton Lane, in Great Lever, on Sunday evening (February 27).

A cordon remained in place for a number of hours, as forensics were called to the scene.

Witnesses told the M.E.N on Sunday that a fight had broken out between a man and a group of 'younger people'.

They also reported seeing a group armed with various weapons, including a screwdriver and a metal bat.

Police had been called at around 2.45pm to reports of a fight in the north Manchester suburb, in Bolton.

A section of Rishton Lane was then cordoned off by police at the junction of Grecian Crescent, for around two hours as enquiries were made.

Eyewitnesses at the scene told the M.E.N that they saw a man 'arguing' with a group of younger people shortly beforehand.

Another said they saw a woman bleeding 'heavily' from her head before she was taken away to hospital by paramedics.

Greater Manchester Police have since confirmed that a man, aged 39, was arrested on suspicion of assault.

Three other men, aged 17, 21 and 29 were all arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

They remain in custody for questioning, it has been confirmed.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At around 2.45pm on Sunday 27 February 2022, police received a report of a fight on Rishton Lane, Bolton.

"Officers attended. A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital with a minor head injury.

"A 39 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. Three other men, aged 17, 21 and 29, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

"They remain in custody for questioning."
