A woman has been taken to hospital after being rescued from the sea in Sunderland by the emergency services.
Northumbria Police has confirmed that officers were called to help the Coastguard during an incident at the 'Cat and Dog Steps' in Roker, Sunderland, at around 7.30pm on Tuesday, April 25. The force said that a woman who was in the sea was rescued by the Coastguard before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman told Chronicle Live: "A person was in the water at the Cat and Dog Steps in Roker, Sunderland.

"Officers attended the scene just before 7.30pm. The Coastguard located a female and brought her out of the water.
"Police officers met her at the shore and she was checked over before being taken to hospital by ambulance."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 7.37pm last night (25 April) to reports of a woman in the water off the Cat and Dog Steps in Roker, Sunderland. We dispatched one ambulance crew and a crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). One patient was then taken to the Sunderland Royal Hospital for further treatment."
Details of the woman's condition have not yet been confirmed by the emergency services. The Coastguard said it was unable to comment on the incident.
