Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash between a car and an ambulance vehicle which saw a Wales Air Ambulance helicopter land nearby. Police, ambulance and fire crews were all called to Bute Street in Treherbert at around 1.30pm on Sunday.
They were responding to a crash involving a car and an ambulance rapid response vehicle. According to Mid and West Fire and Rescue Service one person was out of one of the vehicles when they arrived. You can get the latest WalesOnline newsletters emailed to you directly for free by signing up here.
Another person, a woman, had to be cut from a vehicle by fire crews using cutting equipment. The road has been closed since around 1.30pm and people have been asked to use alternative routes. A picture from the scene shows a helicopter from the Wales Air Ambulance landing in a nearby field.
The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed two people have been taken to hospital – one to the University Hospital of Wales and one to Royal Glamorgan Hospital. A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.23pm to a high-speed road traffic collision on Bute Street in Treherbert. We deployed a rapid response vehicle, two emergency ambulances, an operational commander, and were supported by Wales Air Ambulance. One patient was conveyed to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. Another patient was conveyed to Royal Glamorgan Hospital. Both patients are receiving further treatment at their respective hospitals."
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Shortly after 1.30pmon Sunday officers were called following reports of a road traffic collision in Bute Street, Treherbert. The collision involved two vehicles. One person has been taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing. The road is currently blocked and motorists are advised to find alternative routes."
