Man charged with attempted murder after woman suffers critical burns during incident in Werribee South

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman suffered significant burns outside a property in Melbourne's outer south-west.

The woman, 32, is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, following the incident which police described as a dispute.

Police said the woman was in the front yard of a home in Rivercoast Road in Werribee South when the incident occurred about 2am on Wednesday.

Arson squad detectives were investigating what led to the woman being burned and had set up a crime scene.

Two other people suffered minor injuries.

A 43-year-old Werribee South man has been charged with attempted murder, conduct engendering life, intentionally causing serious injury and recklessly causing serious injury.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on December 29.

Police said a 45-year-old woman from Werribee South was released pending further enquiries, while a woman was released without charge.

Neighbour Ben Stornebrink said he was woken by the commotion outside the house and described the events as "shocking."

"Generally it is quiet and you really wouldn't expect something like this to happen to be honest," he said.
