A girlfriend was stunned to get a £1,000 designer handbag as a "sorry" gift after a row with her lover - until she found out it was stolen.
Window cleaner George Tetzlaff stole the pink bling Burberry handbag in a bid to make-up with his girlfriend.
A court heard heard he gave her the new handbag, which still had a label on it, along with Calvin Klein perfume after they couple had a bust-up.
But the stolen property was recovered by police within days and Tetzlaff was arrested for stealing the bag and the perfume together in a break-in.
The pink handbag was owned by a Chinese student studying in Swansea University whose home was targeted by 24-year-old Tetzlaff.
He was seen speeding away on motorbike from the scene with the designer handbag.
She returned from a shopping trip to find an Apple laptop computer, her Chinese passport, visa, ID card and bank cards, bottles of perfume, and the new Burberry bag were missing.
Prosecutor Tom Scapens said CCTV showed a man on a red motorbike seen pulling up near the burgled house at 5.26pm and then riding off - carrying a pink handbag.
Police went to Tetzlaff's house to recover a new pink Burberry bag complete with Chinese-language label.
Inside the bag was a bottle of CK One perfume identical to one taken during the break-in.
Swansea Crown Court heard the girlfriend told officers he had given her the Burberry bag and perfume as gifts after an argument during which she had thrown him out of the house.
The laptop with the student's coursework was never found.
Tetzlaff pleaded guilty to burglary and to possession of a Class C drug before Judge Paul Thomas KC sentenced him to two years in prison.
In an unrelated burglary earlier this month, a horrified family watched a burglar raid an elderly loved one's home live on her doorbell cam as she lay sleeping.
The Mirror reported John Donakey peered through the window of the property and saw the occupant asleep crept inside, before searching through their drawers.
Footage alerted the victim's family to suspicious movement and they quickly dialled 999 - but police were unable to find the 57-year-old culprit on arrival.
A video showed Donakey entering the home in Penrith, Cumbria, before opening a drawer and then putting on black gloves.
He then searches through more drawers, as well as a bag and purse.
The thief, of St Helens, Merseyside, was last month sentenced for nine counts of burglary and one offence of going equipped for theft.
