Woman struck by car, killed after crash on motorway at Central Coast

A WOMAN was fatally struck by a car in a four-vehicle crash on the Central Coast on Sunday.

The Pacific Motorway, or M1, was closed in both directions at Wyong after emergency services rushed to the scene at about 1.30pm on October 27.

A woman was reportedly hit by a car in the northbound lanes shortly after four vehicles crashed in the southbound lanes.

She died at the scene, but had not been formally identified at the time of this report.

Tuggerah Lakes police officers established a crime scene, but the woman's death is not being treated as suspicious.

One woman - who was in one of the four vehicles that collided in the southbound lanes - was taken to Gosford hospital with minor injuries.

The other drivers and passengers of the crashed cars - which were a Mazda Cx5, Honda Odyssey, Hyundai Kona and a truck - were not hurt but were treated at the scene for shock.

Southbound lanes reopened at 5pm, but police investigations were ongoing in the northbound lanes on Sunday evening.

Traffic diversions were put in place and motorists should avoid the area.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The tragedy occurred just as the Old Pacific Highway was opening at Mount White after an earlier head-on crash, which seriously injured two people.
