A woman in her 60s has been attacked by a female kangaroo while playing a round of golf at a Gold Coast course.
The 69-year-old was "stomped" and scratched by a large female kangaroo while on the fairway at Arundel Hills Golf Club just after 9am on Friday.
She suffered lacerations to her jaw, arms and legs, while sustaining soft tissue injuries to her head.
Victim in stable condition
The woman was taken by ambulance to Pindara Private Hospital in a stable condition.
It is understood she was walking on the fairway when she was attacked.
She had been in a golf cart but was on foot at the time the kangaroo approached her.
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) operations supervisor Joel McEwan said the woman was attacked "without warning" after the animal came from the side of the course.
"She's fallen to the ground at that first kick and when she's been on the ground, she's been stomped a number of times by the kangaroo," he said.
Mr McEwan said the woman was "quite upset" when paramedics, including advanced care crews, arrived at the scene.
The QAS operations supervisor said kangaroo attacks were not unheard of on golf courses in the city, where there are many kangaroos.
Club will investigate
In a statement, a club spokesman said they were "saddened" by the incident, which would be investigated.
"Arundel Hills Country Club is deeply saddened by this tragic event and wish for a quick recovery to those involved," the spokesman said.
"This extremely rare and unusual incident will be investigated further by the club.
"However, it is important to remember that this is also the kangaroo's home, and we will do our best to ensure our co-existence in the future."
