Detectives have launched a homicide investigation after a woman was stabbed to death in her Townsville home.
Police were called to a disturbance at a home on Wellington Street in Mundingburra about 11:45am on Thursday.
On arrival, police discovered a 44-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds.
Detective Acting Inspector Chris Hicks said officers began CPR before paramedics took over, but the woman died at the scene.
"She was still alive when police arrived and she was still alive when QAS arrived but she succumbed to the injuries," he said.
A short time later, officers arrested a 25-year-old man, who police said was the woman's son.
Detective Acting Inspector Hicks said police would allege the man was found on a nearby street with two knives.
"Further examination will be undertaken by specialist police," he said.
Detective Acting Inspector Hicks said the pair lived in the same house and the man was assisting police.
"It's not a random attack," he said.
Forensic police remain at the the scene and residents will be doorknocked.
Detectives have urged anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
