With Christmas only a few weeks away, the whirlwind of festive celebrations can pile on top of us pretty quickly. Many of us will scour through our wardrobes in the hopes to dress to impress for the occasion - whether this is to dine with close pals or for the classic work Christmas party.
It's a common occurrence, therefore, that people may turn to the internet to find something new to wear. Seeking advice for an outfit on popular forum Mumsnet, a woman's outfit choice for her office party has sparked a debate online as users have slammed it for being "so revealing" and "inappropriate".
In the post online, the woman shared a photo of Zara's Asymmetric Bustier top, alongside the message: "I'm planning to get this bustier from Zara for my office Christmas party, which is black tie/cocktail dress code. (It will come back into stock in time. It WILL)
"What would you pair it with?" She questioned.
"I'm thinking chandelier earrings not unlike the model's and maybe some wide-leg velvet trousers in a contrasting tone? Shoes? I don't want to wear heels if I can help it."
While the woman seemed very excited by her outfit plans, others aren't completely sold on the stylish fit.
Flocking to the comments, one Mumsnet user questioned whether the outfit was "suitable attire" to wear around her colleagues.
"Are you absolutely sure that this is suitable attire for your office Christmas party?" They asked.
"I'd have thought most people wouldn't consider something so revealing in my honest opinion."
On the other hand, different Mumsnet users took to the comment section to defend the woman's outfit, with one person saying: "Very surprised someone said it was revealing, I guess if you consider showing your shoulders as revealing then I guess it is. Past that it's quite conservative."
Someone else wrote: "I think it's lovely and actually fairly modest in that your boobs are covered. Would white or caramel crepe tailored trousers look chic with it? They'd be useful in the future too."
A third penned: "That top is very modest compared to what some of the people I worked with wore to Christmas dos. I think most people like an excuse to dress up these days since everything is so much more casual."
"I'm loving the whole look op [original poster]. Ignore those saying it's too revealing or too expensive," another added.
