Attending a buffet is so much fun - there are so many different finger foods to choose from, and everything always looks so appetising and delicious. But have you ever been tempted to take a plastic tub of food along with you to a shindig, to take some home for later, or even to feed your other half? That's what one woman complained about online after she noticed her mum's friend loading 'three Tupperware cartons' full of food.
She took to Mumsnet to tell her horrifying tale, expressing her shock that someone would be so cheeky, asking other forum users 'would you take food home from a buffet?'
She wrote: "I held a party for a family member's birthday recently.
"One of our family friends runs a catering company and I employed them to provide a buffet suitable for the number of attendees.
"One of my mum's friends turned up with a Tupperware set and said to my mum 'oh I'll just take some of the food home for Steve (her husband - not real name). She then proceeded to load three Tupperware cartons with food from the buffet.
"Surely this is not normal? Do people really help themselves to food for their family who weren't even invited?"
People in the comments agreed that it was presumptuous that she could take food, stating that she should've asked permission before.
One wrote: "Yes, that's rude. She should've asked first."
Someone else commented: "No it’s rude and greedy. I have in-laws who do this and they’re well-mocked for it."
Another said: "I have done this before at the end of the night when they said they would be throwing it away. Such a waste, I had to ask for a box though, I didn't go armed with Tupperware."
One Mumsnetter was horrified, writing: "That is appalling. How utterly rude. Very different if your host says take some stuff and hands you a container. But turning up with Tupperware and filling it is so rude and grabby."
