Woman shares how she gets 'natural' eyelash lift at home with nighttime sleep mask hack

Beauty buffs are always looking for the next hack for plumper skin, brighter under-eyes or longer lashes. The latter is particularly sought after as many women fork out hundreds of pounds for salon treatments including eyelash extensions and lash lifts to achieve the doe-eyed, fluttery finish. Long, voluminous eyelashes can truly transform your look, with many people justifying pricey treatments as it allows them to feel put-together when wearing no make-up.

Lash lifts, tints and extensions can set you back a huge amount when done monthly or even bi-monthly. But one woman has claimed to find the answer to all beauty lovers' prayers in the form of a game-changing hack that involves zero salon visits. Taking to TikTok to reveal her secret, Ally, known as @ allyrbackus on the platform, replied to a video of another woman complaining that she couldn't get her lashes to lift, leaving them looking short and barely there.

In a bid to help her and others facing a similar problem, Ally explained that she too had struggled with short lashes that wouldn't lift, but explains that you can 'train' your lashes to sit the way you want them to.

Speaking to the camera, Ally posted a TikTok video in which she said: "I know I don't have the longest eyelashes in the world but you can see how they sit lifted".

She then shares an old image of herself to illustrate the difference between her current defined-looking lashes and how they looked previously, explaining: "This is how they sit naturally [now] and this is how they used to sit".

The difference is stark, as you can clearly see her natural lashes with a lifted finish, compared with near-invisible lashes in the old photo.

She continues by explaining that she has "no mascara on" while filming the video, before revealing her holy-grail answer to naturally lifting her lash hairs.

"I used to get a lash lift every three months because I thought that was the only way to make them look longer," she explains.

"But then I realised you can train your eyelashes to sit like this naturally over time."

Rather than plumping for expensive at-home lash serums or treatments, the woman claims that all you need is a sleeping mask.

Showing viewers how to perfect her routine, the woman puts an over-eye sleeping mask on, and says: "All you need to do it put the sleeping mask on. When you put it on, have your eyes open. Put it on tight, then close your eyes".

"You'll literally feel your eyelashes go up like this - sleep like that every night and you'll wake up to your lashes literally sitting up like this all day every day," she adds, before concluding the clip by explaining that her lashes look "even longer" with make-up on.

The viral video has amassed a whopping five million views to date, with thousands of commenters sharing their wonder over the simple trick.

One person wrote: "So ur [sic] telling me thiiiissss [sic] is the purpose of a sleeping mask?!", a comment which 34,000 people liked.

Another said: "Girl you’re a genius for this" while a second commenter added "This makes so much sense ??? Why has nobody discovered this sooner lol".

One woman, who seems to be a lash technician herself, joked: "This girl just took my lash lift career in 30 seconds".

Another person soon found that they'd been enjoying the hack without realising, saying: "I thought mine were naturally curled bc [because] I have curly hair but I’ve been using an eye mask since I was like 7".

Others questioned whether the trick would work for them, with one TikTok user asking: "isn't it uncomfortable tho [sic]".

While a few people warned against using the eye mask in the same way for a long stretch of time, as one commenter said: "Be careful doing this for too long as your lashes start to curl into your lids".

Another agreed: "Ok but be careful! I did this years ago and ended up with my lashes curling into little circles and I couldn’t wear mascara [sic] anymore".

After one viewer asked to see Ally's lashes with mascara on, she posted a follow-up video showing her with make-up on to prove that her lash hairs look lifted and lengthened.
