Woman shares hack for 'emergency' period pad for if you don't have one

Most people who have had a period have experienced being caught unaware when it finally turns up – or have left home without a pad or a tampon.

If this happens to you, it's actually easier than you might think to make your own period pad to last you until you can buy one.

Period pants brand WUKA has shared a genius hack you can use if you find yourself in a situation without one.

Taking to TikTok, they uploaded a video with the caption: "Sometimes we get caught out as periods wait for no one. Here's how to make an emergency pad to keep you secure until you can get your period products!"

If you don't have a period pad to hand, you can use toilet roll (@wukawear/TikTok)

In the video, a woman who works for the brand demonstrated how to make a "DIY" emergency pad for if you're "out and about and you come on your period. Here's how to make a makeshift pad in the meantime.

"You want to wrap a load of toilet roll around your hand and then put it in your pants nice and tight, this will help absorb the blood".

Many will know this trick – but unfortunately when you pull your pants back up you could risk it moving around. However, WUKA has a second trick to make sure it stays in place.

The woman continued: "To keep that pad in place so that it's not going to fall out while you're walking, wrap more tissue around the pad and your pants pants so that it won't budge."

This will also add extra layering to make sure it absorbs the blood.

In the comment section people were sharing their own tips, with one person suggesting you could put some toilet roll in the gusset, which is the piece of material that is sewn in to strengthen them.

WUKA replied, saying: "Yesss that's such a good idea! Even more layering."

Another person shared: "I just create a tampon with tissue/toilet paper."

Others said they had already tried the hack, with one person commenting: "Been there and done that and so thankful I don't have to anymore!"
