Woman shares 'game-changing' hack to avoid slipping outside your house and it costs nothing

As Ireland braces for bitterly cold temperatures this week, it usually means waking up to a dangerously icy driveway in the morning.

Many people fear an embarrassing and dramatic fall on the slippery surface beneath our feet on a winter morning.

Thankfully, a woman has shared a tip that she's claiming is the "best hack" to stop us sliding across icy roads and paths. And it won't cost you a thing.

Taking to popular video-streaming service TikTok, mum-of-two Mel shared the game-changing hack in a video, which has over 1.1 million views since posting.

Searching through the bottom of her drawers, the parent pulled out two old socks that are likely to go unused and put them to work with her genius hack.

Putting the socks over her shoes to increase her grip, the woman was chuffed with her efforts as she was prepared to take the icy surface without the fear of slipping.

Captioning the post of her viral video, Mel wrote: "BEST (most needed) HACK atm in my opinion… socks worn over your shoes - to avoid slipping on the ice. Thank me later."

She explained: "So, this is happening right now - absolute game-changer!"

"When it's icy, this ice is so so slippery, so wear socks and shoes.

"Game-changer!" she added.

Flocking to the comments, users were overjoyed by the mum's handy hack and were keen to give it a try - while others were concerned about "humiliation".

One eager TikToker user wrote: "Off to Primark for men's trainer socks it is then because it's a skating rink out there."

A second claimed: "I've always done this. Always get the looks but I ain't the one sliding haha."

"I'm so on this... I live in Scotland and am petrified of slipping I've had few falls too.. So thanks," a third added.

A fourth penned: "Going to do this! Thank you! I recently slipped and broke my elbow so I have the absolute fear of falling again. This will help so much."

Meanwhile, a different user said: "My kids would be horrified if I did the school run like this let's go."
