Grans can always be relied upon for good advice and one woman has shared a tip she learned from hers which she says can keep clothes smelling 'amazing' for up to 20 years.
All that it takes it seems is an everyday bathroom item that costs around 50p. And that would certainly mean quite a saving on the pricey products available on supermarket shelves that promise to give your laundry a long-lasting scent.
In a video posted to TikTok, the woman, called Julia, said the trick she learned could keep clothes, once washed, smelling good in drawers for up to two decades, reports The Mirror; adding that while looking through her grandma's clothing collection she said she noticed there was a wrapped bar of natural soap in every drawer.

After asking her gran what they were for, she was told they helped keep clothes smelling fresh - and could last between 15 and 20 years. In a video posted on her @_boringbb_ account, Julia said: "Did anyone else rip out those magazine fragrance testers and shove them in your drawers to keep your clothes smelling nice? I did up until a few months ago.
"I was over at my grandma's house and she pulls out this bar of soap (from her drawer) and I was like, 'why do you have that in there?' and she said 'Oh honey, you didn't know that's how you keep your clothes smelling nice'? Apparently, if you take a nice, neutral, wrapped bar of soap (this one is lavender but you can use cotton or whatever), it'll last 15 to 20 years.
"I had no idea but I tried it out for a few months and it's amazing. My clothes smell amazing. Definitely give it a go."
Bars of soap vary in price, of course, but you can pick up Palmolive bars for £1 from Asda, while the supermarket also stocks a four-pack of Imperial Leather bars for £2, making each bar just 50p. Scented soaps, such as ones with lavender fragrance, start at £2.30 per bar from Asda and Tesco.
Among the comments on the post, praising Julia for sharing the trick, were some pointing out that the soap tip works best if the bar is in a paper wrapper, as the scent can't be smelled as strongly through a box or plastic wrapping. One person said: "I have been influenced! Definitely going to give this a try."
Another added: "This also prevents moths! Make a small rip in the packaging. Plastic packaging prevents the smell from going out." And one third wrote: "This is such a cool idea."
