Woman shares 1p Asda hack that'll stop flies landing in your drink this summer

Everyone appreciates a life hack that's going to make their life a little bit simpler - especially during the UK's current scorching temperatures.

With the weather expected to peak at 41C over the next few days - the Met Office has issued a danger to life red weather warning.

Whilst many of us will make sure to keep safe inside with the cooler temperatures, it doesn't stop several of us tempted to open the back door to soak up some of the sunshine - with an ice-cold beverage.

However, one large obstacle steps in our way - and that's the abundance of flies making themselves cosy in our drinks.

A woman has come forward to share her game-changing hack to keep the flies at bay this summer - and better yet, it costs just a penny.

Despite the trick costing less than spare change, the best thing about it is that you probably have the items in your cupboard fit for the hack - without even realising it.

Manchester Evening News reporter Bethan Shufflebotham shared the hack - which is available to purchase from popular supermarket retailer Asda for just one penny.

She initially stumbled across the life-changing hack four years ago - after she spotted it shared by the wine brand Silver Bay Point back.

The quick and easy hack only needs a few items - a cupcake case, a straw and a small pair of scissors.

Bethan said: "Firstly, find the centre of the cupcake case and cut a tiny cross in the middle just big enough to fit the straw.

"Then, place the cupcake case upside down over the top of your glass to create a lid, pushing the straw through to create a fly-proof summer drink.

"If it’s a bit breezy out, you could use a little bit of tape to keep it in place, but I found it to be okay as the straw mostly kept it over the glass."

The reporter luckily found two packs lurking in the pack of her cupboard ready to use - otherwise, a pack of 100 is available from Asda for just 70p.

Whilst the hack is fairly straightforward, Bethan encouraged intrigued bargain hunters - who are keen to try the hack - to make sure that they have an appropriate glass.

Alternatively, something more narrow - like a champagne glass - will fit well as the cupcake case can sit perfectly on top.
