Woman shames friend for giving son oddly-spelt name inspired by alcoholic cocktail

Everyone wants their child to stand out - but some parents will go the extra mile to make it happen. That's exactly what one expecting mum has in mind, as she reveals how her son's name is inspired by a popular cocktail.

However, not everyone is onboard with her idea, with her best friend even trying to talk her out of it. Taking to Reddit, the friend said: "[She] just told me that she is naming her son Xaiquiri, which is meant to be pronounced the same as Zachary.

"She got the spelling by changing the first letter of daiquiri - like the cocktail - to an 'X', which is meant to make a 'Z' sound." The woman went on to explain how she is trying to "subtly convince" her pregnant pal to stick to the traditional spelling, saying it'll make her son's life much easier.

She added: "I wanted to show her how difficult it'll be for strangers to pronounce his name throughout his life.

"I'm trying to gently persuade her into changing the spelling - not even the name itself, as I think the name is lovely as it is spoken."

To prove her point, she urged Reddit users to share their thoughts on the name Xaiquiri - asking whether they'd know how to pronounce it.

In response, one user said: "She is trying to get us to say “Zachary” but she should be in jail for this. It’s like naming your dog Phydeaux."

Another user added: "Daiquiri with an X like in Xavier…. Zachary! I get her logic, but it's still hilarious."

A third user said: "Honestly, it looks amazing for a dog's name! Dogs don’t care about people getting the spelling of their name correctly."

One more user added: "Zachary! But that's based on a guess that it rhymes with daiquiri."

It seems her experiment worked as her pregnant pal is now reconsidering the spelling.

She added: "I'm surprised so many people have guessed it so far! Yes, it is meant to be pronounced the same as Zachary.

"I showed my friend a couple of the comments, and it seems like she may be considering changing the spelling. Fingers crossed."
