An elderly woman was taken to hospital after being trapped beneath a car.
Witnesses said "sirens and helicopters," swamped the area, after the emergency services were called to the junction of Marine Road and Alderley Road in Hoylake at around 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday, December 20) to reports an elderly woman had been hit by a car.
Arriving on the scene, firefighters found the woman trapped beneath the Ford, and proceeded to free her using hydraulic spreaders. Paramedics then assessed the woman, who was taken to hospital.

As of writing the woman remains in hospital and is being treated for her serious injuries, although they are not thought to be life threatening. Merseyside Police confirmed the driver stopped at the scene. They said they were in the "very early stages" of investigating the incident.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews were alerted at 9.33am and [arrived] on scene at 9.41am. Two fire engines and the search and rescue team attended. On arrival, firefighters found one vehicle on all four wheels following a collision with a pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.
"Crews freed the pedestrian from under the vehicle using hydraulic spreaders. Paramedics were then able to assess the pedestrian, who was later taken to hospital. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service then left the scene at 10.31am."
