As people share ways to save money during the cost of living crisis, one woman's idea has struck a nerve, leading to a debate online over what's acceptable to do at a restaurant.
Critics have blasted the influencer for her penny-pinching ways after the diner shared how she saves money on expensive avocados. After the woman took to the video app to ask if she was an "a*****e", she stood by her tactic even as users called the move "embarrassing".
The debacle kicked off after Milly Rose Bannister, a TikTok user from Australia, revealed how she saves money on breakfast by bringing some food from home.
Milly shared a video recommending diners should "BYO (bring your own) avo" on her account @millyrosebannister. She introduced the tip by asking: "Does anybody else do this, or am I the a**hole?
"Basically, the owner of this joint is pretty rude and mean, so I always bring my own avocado instead of paying like $6 (£5) for it, and I save $5 (£4) every time, and then I've got a spare avocado to go home with."
Her video, which demonstrates her using the tip, concludes with a playful "hehe", but many people did not see the funny side of the clip and took to the comments to share their outrage, the Mirror reported.
One person said: "If you're asking the question you know the answer."
And a second wrote: "There's a big difference between being savvy and cheap. Eat at home if you've an issue paying café or restaurant prices."

"You're still putting money in the cafe's hands so I don’t see the problem," read one comment.
Milly also defended herself, writing: "Pls keep in mind: this café is thriving. Owner lies. I don't always do it, only HERE when I'm in Coles before. I've spent $180 there this week. Chill."
And in response to a commenter who said: "This is extremely sad," she questioned: "Isn't it better for me to spend $14 (£11) there than $0???" However, this in turn led to further debate about the fairness of the hack.
