Woman's chilling secret phone call about ways to have ex-husband murdered

A woman was secretly recorded discussing ways to have her ex-husband murdered.

Victoria Breeden claimed she was "joking" and "not serious" about having Rob Parkes, 40, killed.

The 39-year-old had tried to hire three hitmen to have Mr Parkes killed after losing custody of a child.

Breeden, of Black Horse Drove near Littleport, Cambridgeshire,  was found guilty  of three counts of soliciting murder and cleared of another.

Yesterday Breeden was jailed for nine years and six months at Chelmsford Crown Court.

A recorded conversation was played during her trial, in which Breeden was heard asking another man: "How easy is it to get in contact with someone who can make someone disappear?"

Former boyfriend Graham Wall said he made the secret recording using a device hidden in a cupboard because he feared she was cheating.

When he retrieved it the next day he listened to the recording of Breeden and another man, Earl Gernon, talking about how easy it would be to ‘make someone disappear’.

The recording heard talk of the different ways her ex-husband, Rob Parkes, could be murdered or seriously injured, and that it would cost between £10,000 and £15,000 for a ‘see you later’.

Breeden: "So with all these dodgy people, do you know how easy is it to get in contact with someone who can make somebody disappear?"

Gernon: "I don't know it's probably not that hard. Basically I just need to know the name, date of birth and a picture."

"Is it costly?" Breeden interupts.

Gernon: "Roughly whereabouts. It can be costly yeah depends what you want done."

Breeden: "How costly?"

Gernon: "If you want just tied up, taped up, and kicked the f**k out of and left in Thetford Forest. That's perfectly fine we can get that arranged for.

"Other things are very very very expensive. Like 10 or 15 grand for (makes a pop noise), see ya later. And they have to come from London and all sorts."

Breeden: "Are they reliable?"

Gernon: "But just to get someone bundled in the boot of the car and kicked to death and left in Thetford Forest is a lot cheaper. I can get [derogatory word for Travellers] to do that."

Breeden: "Yeah but then you've got a trace haven't you."

Gernon: "Almost, why who do you want to disappear?"

Breeden: "If I told you that take I'd have to tell you my past."

Gernon: "Right."

Breeden: "Which may involve me bursting into tears."

Gernon: "Right so we just going to say the ex-husband or something. Yeah?"

Breeden: "Pretty much."

Mr Wall said Breeden told him to get rid of the audio and went to police several days later as he "became concerned for my safety and for Rob's".

When police raided her home in Littleport, Cambs., they discovered £18,000 cash hidden in a baby milk tin.

One of the three men who Breeden approached to kill Rob told the Mirror: "When Victoria asked me it seemed like an off-the-cuff comment.

"It was only after the police got involved that I realised how serious she was.

"She was basically going from guy to guy until she found someone who would do it for her.

"I spoke to her husband after the court case - I had coffee in a cafe with the man I was accused of trying to have murdered.

"It was surreal. We had a really nice chat and he seemed a reasonable man.

"I just wanted to apologise to him because I still felt guilty about not coming forward sooner.

"He was perfectly fine and said 'it's not your fault'."

"I hope Vicky gets the help she needs in prison but Rob will be dealing with this for the rest of his life."

Mr Parkes, reading his victim impact statement to the court, said that the trial was "harrowing" for him as he heard "just how my ex-wife wanted to kill me".

"I've never felt as unsafe as I have in the last year," he said.

Mr Justice Chamberlain, sentencing Breeden, said: "The evidence demonstrates that your main motivation in trying to persuade others to kill Rob Parkes was to regain custody of (a child).

"It must be obvious to you now that that can't happen."

A court heard in March how Breeden attempted to persuade three different men to kill Rob in five years.

She had become "bitter and angry” after their relationship broke down and he won custody of their daughter.

She was also angry he married her best friend Victoria Balmer.
