Woman's boyfriend fumes after she won't let him read parts of her old teenage diary

Even in the closest of relationships, you should expect some degree of privacy, especially when it comes to things such as personal diaries.

Unfortunately, one woman recently found her privacy being compromised during a trip to her parents' house after she and her boyfriend came across her old "hideously cringy" teenage diary.

He was keen to have a look through, but she wasn't comfortable at all with this idea, as anyone who has ever poured out their hearts as a teen will surely understand.

Unfortunately, he just wouldn't take no for an answer, insisting she let him have a look, and even going as far as to try and "wrestle" the book away from her.

Eventually, she caved and permitted him to have a peek, but not before ripping out "the two most embarrassing pages" in her eyes. This apparently wasn't enough for him.

Taking to Mumsnet, the conflicted girlfriend - who goes by the username Theresnolimit505 - wrote: "In the end, he gave up and went to the toilet. Whilst he was out, I ripped out the two most embarrassing pages in my eyes.

"He came back and said can I read it now? So I said okay, then he opened it and noticed the two ripped-out pages and went mad.
Saying, 'If you lie about this, it makes me wonder what else you lie about?'"

She's now wondering who exactly is in the wrong following this incident, reaching out to fellow Mumsnet users for advice. Many have expressed concern about her boyfriend violating her boundaries in this way, with some even urging her to reconsider the relationship.

One person warned: "Nobody has a right to read something you regard as personal and private. You shouldn’t have to ‘edit’ it so that you feel better about giving in to him, and his reaction is really disturbing. He is going to trample all over any boundaries you try to set."

Another advised: "A diary is private. He violated your boundaries. This is a reason to end the relationship immediately. Seriously, this man has shown himself to be toxic."
