Woman's body pulled from water in Tullamore canal as gardai launch investigation

A woman’s body was discovered in a canal in Co Offaly on Monday afternoon.

Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene in Tullamore and removed the body from the water.

They confirmed that the woman, aged in her 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body is due to be transferred for a post-mortem later on Monday.

Gardai remain at the location of the incident and have said an investigation has been launched.

The results of the impending post-mortem “will determine the course of the investigation," according to a statement.

A spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardai are currently at the scene of an incident at the canal in Tullamore, Co Offaly this afternoon, Monday February 7, 2022.

“The body of a female, aged in her 70s, was recovered from the water. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Her body will be removed for post-mortem, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.”
