Woman's body found on Scots beach as emergency services race to scene

A woman's body has been recovered at a Scots beach sparking an emergency response.

Mercy crews scrambled to Monifieth Beach in Dundee after the discovery was made at around 10am on Friday morning.

Police, ambulance crews and the coastguard were called to the incident.

It has now been confirmed that the emergency was in relation to the recovery of a body from the beach.

Officers sealed off the area following the discovery.

One eyewitness said: "Large police and coastguard presence down at Monifieth Beach just now.

"The path and beach is closed off."

Another said: "There has been lots of sirens this morning. At least two ambulances have gone down that way."

A third confirmed: "A lady's body has been found."

The identity of the woman has not yet been disclosed.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: “We received a call at 10am on Friday to assist Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service at an incident at Monifieth Beach.

“This was in connection with the recovery of a body from the beach.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
