Woman rushed to hospital after being thrown from fair ride in Hull

A woman at Hull Fair has been rushed to hospital after suffering serious injures when she was thrown from a moving ride.

The Air Max 360 and Sizzler rides were forced to close following the incident just before 7pm this evening (October 7).

Emergency services were in attendance and the area around both attractions was cordoned off by police.

A teenage boy was also injured when he was hit by the woman as she landed on another ride.

Eyewitnesses said the ride had “just set off” when the woman fell.

She was seen on the floor wearing a neck brace but was later moved by police and paramedics.

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at about 19:03 to reports someone had fallen from a ride.

“St John’s Ambulance provide cover at Hull Fair and so the incident was handled by them and they transported one male to Hull Royal Infirmary with minor injuries and one female to Hull Royal Infirmary with multiple injuries.”

Police also confirmed the woman is seriously injured and has been rushed to hospital.

A spokesperson said: "We’re currently in attendance with Hull City Council at an incident at Hull Fair where a woman was injured after falling off a ride.

"She’s been taken to hospital for treatment. Please be patient as we work to establish the circumstances around this.

"Two rides are closed."

Gary Leach, who is chair of the Showmen’s Guild, has issued his thoughts to all those involved.

He said: “The police, ambulance, and health and safety are all liaising. No one knows really what has happened. We are getting all different stories.

“All we can hope is the girl is not injured too badly. Our thoughts are with anyone who has been injured.”

Amy Louise Jackson, 25, did not see what happened but turned up to go on the ride.

She said: “It’s scary. That’s one of the rides I normally go on that one.

“When I hear stories like this I won’t go on them again. It puts you off. It makes you think twice about health and safety.”

Macauley Cross, 24, from Patrington, said: “You expect the worst when you see this. No chance am I going on it. You won’t catch me on owt like that.”

Another man said: “We were on the way out as this happened and saw medics running by but assumed someone maybe collapsed. It’s shocking. I’m sending my best wishes to the lady.”
