Woman rushed to hospital after being hit by van in Laois

A woman is in a "serious but stable" condition in hospital after she was hit by a van this morning.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses after the incident in Mountmellick, Co Laois, which occurred at around 9am.

The woman, a pedestrian in her 70s, was struck by a van at O'Connell Square and was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment.

Gardai added: "She remains in a serious but stable condition at this time. No other injuries have been reported at this time."

A technical examination of the scene has since concluded and gardai are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

Any road users who were in the area and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this available to gardai.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
