Woman rubs chilli powder in son’s eyes for ganja addiction

An upset and helpless woman tied up her teenaged son and rubbed chilli powder in his eyes, as a punishment for his reported addiction to ganja, near Kodad town in Suryapet district.

The incident, which was recorded on cellphone and widely shared over social media, has been grabbing eyeballs. The video available on Monday showed the boy tied to a concrete pole outside the house in a street while his mother kept rubbing the chilli and the boy screaming to stop.

Speaking to local media, the woman, identifying herself as Ramana and a daily worker, said her son was addicted to ganja for nearly a year. She said she was helpless as nobody was able to stop him from the abuse.

“Well done! Only when it starts at home, the society will be better,” wrote one social media user.

Ms. Ramana, speaking before cellphone cameras, said Kodad police must take strict measures to check ganja abuse in the town. “My only intention was to set him right,” she said.

The mother and her neighbours untied the boy after he kept screaming that he would quit the habit.
