Woman 'recovering from brain surgery' hit by rock thrown by Scots school pupil

Police have launched a probe following reports that a woman who has recently had brain surgery was hit in the head by a rock thrown by a primary school pupil.

The incident, which happened last month at Stoneywood Primary School in Aberdeen, has since been escalated following further reports that a dog that was hit by a projectile coming had to be taken to the vets.

Locals have said that the city school has been contacted again following the most recent incident but they have now also involved police.

Staff at Stoneywood Primary have confirmed to the Record that they are aware of the incidents, where a woman in a neighbouring property and a dog were struck by projectiles thrown by a pupil.

After the woman was struck, they took action by identifying and speaking to the pupil involved. Parents were also contacted.

The school has offered their apologies to the woman for the "distress" caused.

A post on Fubar News asked parents to speak to children on the dangers of throwing objects in the surrounding area.

It said: "Can you please speak to your children and ask them kindly not to throw projectiles over the fence in to surrounding gardens as a lady who has recently had brain surgery was hit in the head by a substantially sized rock about 4-6 weeks ago and a dog was hit today who required to be checked by the vet.

"The school have been contacted again but as this is ongoing the police have now also been contacted."

An Aberdeen City Council spokesperson said: “Staff at Stoneywood school were made aware of an incident which a woman in a neighbouring property and a dog were struck by projectiles thrown by a pupil.

“Following the incident in which the woman was struck, staff identified and spoke to the pupil whose parent was contacted and gave the assurance they would talk to their child at home.

“The Head Teacher spoke to the woman twice and offered apologies on both occasions for the distress caused.

"To help prevent recurrences of these incidents pupils have been addressed and in class and during assemblies and supervising playground staff have also been asked to continue to be vigilant.

“The Head Teacher and her staff are keen to build harmonious relationships with their neighbours and local community and have extended an invite to the woman in neighbouring property to come along to any school events including school fayres next term. “

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Thursday, June 23, officers received a report of youths throwing stones in the Greenburn Road area of Aberdeen in recent weeks. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
