Woman provokes outrage on social media after drawing map suggesting Manchester is in the MIDLANDS

A woman sparked outrage on social media after drawing a map suggesting Manchester should be in the Midlands rather than the north of England.

A controversial post on Twitter concerning the highly important placing of northern cities on a map of Britain caused a flurry of responses after placing Manchester, Hull and Sheffield in the Midlands.

The makeshift map draws the northern line at Leeds - but social media users commented, giving their version of north, south and midlands.

In a Twitter post, that was retweeted and liked hundreds of times, @MichelleBayly wrote: "Can we all agree that North is Leeds and above..?

"It’s really annoying seeing The North such and such company or something artsy North and for it to be in Birmingham etc. There’s also a middle…the midlands. Be the midlands. North of London doesn’t mean North."

Much like the teacake, barm and bap debacle, the post caused quite a stir, with one user hilariously responding: "you deserve jail time for this sh**" as another wrote: "As a normal human being how is Manchester and Liverpool in the Midlands?"

After the post sparked fury, Michelle said she had 'scrapped' the map and decided that anyone who has gravy on chips, or scraps and mushy peas with fish and chips is classed as 'northern', regardless of geography in a comical update.

"After deep thought and consultation I have decided to scrap my map of North, Middle and South and instead go with the popular opinion that if you have gravy on chips or scraps and mushy peas with fish and chips then you are Northern and if not then not (no matter the geography)," she wrote.
