Woman perplexed by neighbour's 'nuts' complaint about cat in back garden

When it comes to our homes, lots of us take great pride in keeping everything in its place.

But most of us accept that with gardens it is a different story.

From wandering wildlife to visiting pets, there's lots of factors you can't control.

But one homeowner was left less than impressed when his neighbour 's cat started making use of his garden.

And he raised the issue with the cat's owner, outraged by the pet's behaviour.

However, the message might not have gone down as well as expected, as the owner blasted the "nuts" complaint - over the cat sitting on a table.

Taking to Mumsnet to ask for advice, the pet owner questioned if the neighbour had raised a reasonable concern.

Her post began: "We have two cats. They have a catflap so go outside when they like. My neighbour has started complaining that one of them likes to sit on their outside table (during the day, not while they're actually using it)."

She then asked if she was being unreasonable "to think this is a bit nuts".

The owner continued: "I mean we get foxes, magpies, all sorts so why worry about cats?

"I mean if the cats were pooing in their garden I'd understand- they use a litter tray so pretty sure they don't - also I'm sure neighbour would have said, but sitting on their table?"

She added that she suggested the neighbour could spray the cat with water but that she had no other advice to share.

Fellow Mumsnet users were quick to wade in with their opinions.

Several agreed there is not much to be done, though a few people offered different suggestions.

"Tell her she's welcome to throw water at your cat or shush him away. Not a lot else you can do really," said one person.

Another added: "Cats don't tend to like shiny or noisy surfaces, I've seen people put tin foil on kitchen work surfaces to deter their cats."

But a third disagreed, writing: "Fellow cat owner here, it is your responsibility to keep your cats off your neighbour's property. Stop giving cat owners a bad reputation."

The owner responded: "Are you serious? Giving other cat owners a bad rep bc my cat has no table manners?

"They use a litter tray so we're already more considerate than most cat owners."
