Woman missing for 3 weeks found dead in roadside ditch among six other corpses

A woman who was missing for three weeks has been found dead in a roadside ditch among six other unidentified corpses.

Tania Araceli Guzman Navarro was found in the mass grave last week after complaints were made to the police about a putrid smell coming from the area in Mexico.

The corpses were so badly decomposed in Puruandiro, in the state of Michoacan, that it took police forensic experts five days to establish her identity.

It is not known if there are any links between the seven dead or if their bodies were dumped by the same killers, according to local media.

The 23-year-old was popular on Instagram where she shared makeup content and tips on how to create different looks with her 23,000 followers.

According to her family, she was last seen walking through her hometown at around 8.45pm on April 21.

Her family immediately reported her disappearance to the police and began an extensive search, but they struggled to find any leads.

The investigation is ongoing.

Last January it emerged that Michoacan is Mexico's fourth most violent state with nearly 2,500 killings in a year.

Elsewhere in Mexico, Benjamin Gamond, an Argentine tourist, was killed with a machete on Chacahua Island.

Mr Gamond fractured his skull and was taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred to a larger facility in Mexico City.

He died of his injuries on Monday.

Authorities have also accused Gamond's attacker of assaulting two other Argentine tourists who survived and he is being held on suspicion of homicide.

Gamond’s family took to social media to ask for financial help to travel to Mexico.

Marcos Gamond said before he died: “My younger brother — who was travelling through Mexico, a few months ago he was working there — has been violently attacked [...] He is hovering between life and death. This is an urgent call to help us be with him and be by his side at this difficult moment."

And yesterday, a 27-year-old male Canadian was killed in Puerto Escondido, not far from Chacahua.

Victor Masson's body was found inside a car in the coastal town.
