Woman makes 'amazing' and 'crispy' roast potatoes for 5p without using an oven or air fryer

A woman has shared her 5p trick for getting 'amazing' and 'crispy' roast potatoes without using an oven or an air fryer. She says she never thought of using the unconventional method before but now she has, she'll never cook them any other way again.

The woman shared her tip on Facebook, where it gained praise from other social media users. The woman discovered that she can make 'perfect' roast potatoes using a slow cooker.

Wales Online recently conducted an investigation which found out that, on average, slow cookers usually use about 1.2kW over the course of 8 hours, which means it will only use around 162.5w per hour, which works out at just 5 pence per hour.

In her post on Facebook, Ria claimed her take on the roast potato recipe was so good that she'll "never cook them conventionally again". So how exactly does she do it?

The home cook started with some Navan potatoes, which she parboiled for 10 minutes, before leaving them to steam dry in a colander. As they cooled, she sprinkled some flour, salt and pepper, onion granules and some sage over the top before shaking the spuds to coat them in the mixture.

Ria then added "a few glugs" of mild olive oil to her slow cooker and turned the temperature up high so the oil would be nice and hot when she put the potatoes in. The potatoes then got tossed in the oil so they were coated and were left to cook on high for four hours, with a tea towel placed under the lid, turning twice during the time, says the ECHO.

Ria's post on the public Facebook page Slow Cooking UK, received more than 2.7k likes and over 700 comments. Alongside the method, she shared a photo of the potatoes she had cooked looking golden and crispy.

One person replied: "They are amazing, a little bit of oil. Didn't realise I could use the SC [slow cooker] for anything other than a casserole." Another said: "Never thought of doing roasties in my SC, but they sure do look amazing."

While a third added: "OMG you've just saved my Sunday roasts (until I finally get a new oven that is lol) beauties."
