Woman lured pal to house before her ex-boyfriend beat and robbed him at knifepoint

A woman lured a pal to her house in the early hours before he was beaten and robbed by her knife-wielding ex-boyfriend. Sarah Marson, 30, invited the would-be victim to her home, speaking to him for around five to 10 minutes in her bedroom.

Her ex Craig Parkinson and another man then came in. Marson left before the pair launched a brutal attack, swiping the man's phone and £180 in cash while threatening him with a blade.

Marson, from Dukinfield, Tameside has now admitted aiding and abetting robbery and was jailed for 22 months. Craig Parkinson, 35, was previously jailed for five years and three months for robbery and other separate matters.

Prosecuting, Robert Smith said the victim was a friend of Marson’s who went to her house on Newton Terrace after she messaged him on July 20, 2020. They spoke in her bedroom for around five to 10 minutes before the two other men walked in and Marson walked out.

“One of the males punched the victim to the face causing injuries before pulling the Samsung mobile phone from his hand," Mr Smith told Minshull Street Crown Court.

“The second male pulled a knife and made threats towards him.”

A total of £180 in cash was taken from the man before he managed to leave and call police on another phone. Parkinson was still inside, along with Marson, when they were both arrested.

Marson initially told officers her friend went to see her before Parkinson turned up, and she said she only left the bedroom when he came in due to her ‘fear of him’.

“It is the Crown’s case that the defendant knew Mr Parkinson was in the house and that her friend was going to give her some money that day,” the prosecutor said.

The case was later fixed for trial, but Marson failed to attend and a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was arrested for breaching her bail in October this year and has been in custody ever since, the court heard.

In a statement, Marson’s friend said he had sustained an injury to his face during the attack and had suffered financially as a result. He added that he doesn’t feel safe walking around Dukinfield anymore.

She was said to have 23 previous convictions for 34 offences including for offences of attempted robbery and breach of court orders.

Defending, David Thomson said his client had a difficult start in her childhood and that she had fallen ‘under the spell’ of Parkinson. He said she regretted being involved in the incident.

“It seems men have caused her a lot of problems,” Mr Thomson said.

“There has always been a level of coercion and abuse, as far as she is concerned. In relation to these offences, she was clearly party to this and had some knowledge, but she had no knowledge of the level of violence.”

In sentencing, Judge Mark Savill said: “You now admit to luring or enticing a friend of yours, full in the knowledge he was going to be robbed.

“You say you didn’t realise the extent of the violence or the use of a knife - but you knew what Craig Parkinson was capable of.

“Once you get involved, obviously matters can get quickly out of hand.”

Marson, of Newton Terrace, was jailed for 22 months.
