Woman livid as brother demands she dye her hair for wedding - or not attend the big day

When it comes to planning a wedding, some couples will have an idea in their heads of exactly how they want their big day to play out - from the bridesmaids' dresses to the flower arrangements and the colour of the napkins.

And while there's nothing wrong with wanting the "perfect" wedding, most people will also be happy to make changes and exceptions to the vision in their head if they need to, especially for the sake of other family members that they want to involve in the day.

But one man and his fiancée are so determined to get the ideal wedding photos that they've asked one of their family members to make a huge change to their appearance - so that they "look nice".

In a post on Reddit, a 20-year-old woman explained she was born with a "rare condition" which means she has a large patch of white hair that's missing the dark brown pigment that the rest of her tresses have.

And although she's lived with it for her whole life, her brother and his wife-to-be - whom the woman named 'May' in her post - have demanded she dyes it for their wedding, because they think she'll ruin the photos if she doesn't.

She wrote: "So for context, I was born with a rare condition and it made me born with a large patch of hair white. It's always been white all my life, and the rest of my hair is dark brown. When I was a kid I tried dyeing it several times but it burned and left rashes until it faded.

"My older brother is getting married in about a month. He's marrying 'May'. They have made me one of the bridesmaids. Yesterday, May and my family were having a large supper 'party' to talk about the wedding more and just see each other.

"During dinner, May said I should schedule an appointment with the hairdressers soon. I asked her why, and she said I needed to get 'that thing' covered up for her wedding pictures, I was a bridesmaid after all so I had to look nice.

"I said I would never dye my hair again, but she got a bit huffy and left the room for a bit, and my brother said to just dye it this once, with maybe temporary dye."

The woman claimed her brother thinks his partner should have the final say since it's their wedding, and told her that if she didn't dye her hair, they would uninvite her from the event.

She added: "He said it was May's choice, she was the bride, and if I didn't comply they would simply pull me out of the wedding ceremony.

"I still tried to defend myself, but I think I did too much, I said it was my choice and I didn't care what anyone said, and my brother just got angry and told me I was an a**hole. Am I? It is their wedding after all but part of me feels justified."

Commenters on the post were firmly on the woman's side, as many of them said that her brother's wedding doesn't override her body autonomy, and she still has the right to decide what she does with her own hair.

One person said: "This is an insane demand and frankly very insensitive. I assume they asked you to be part of the wedding because they love you. Asking you to colour your hair for a wedding is always a little insane but in your case, it's much closer to bullying."

While another added: "A wedding doesn’t cancel body autonomy. This is not a normal ask. And now you know what she thinks of you, as well."

And a third wrote: "F**k them, let them pull you out of the ceremony. They will feel sh***y about it afterwards and if they don't then they are sh***y people as well."
