A woman has been left permanently disfigured after a Paisley man threw a glass off of her face causing her to fall to the ground.
Stephen Stirling, 33, had been drinking with friends when he threw a pint glass off of Lisa Condie’s face on October 24, 2021 outside of the Balnagowan Arms.
Stirling, of Rowan Street in the town, claimed he was only supposed to throw his drink over Condie but the glass “accidentally slipped” out of his hand.
Condie was left with a one-inch laceration to her cheek which doctors have said will leave her permanently disfigured. Prosecutor Jason Stark explained Condie, and the witness Davidson, are partners and are unknown to Stirling.
Mr Stark told Paisley Sheriff Court: “Around 9.30pm on Saturday, October 23, Condie and Davidson went to the Balnagowan Arms with friends and they all consumed alcohol until closing time at 1am.

“On Sunday, October 24, Condie and Davidson left through the front door and congregated on the footpath.
“Also present were four males – one being the accused, who were all also under the influence of alcohol. Condie and the accused engaged in some sort of argument and Condie walked away from him before returning in an attempt to confront him.
“One of the males from Stirling’s group tried to diffuse the situation.
“As Condie approached the accused, he lifted his right hand holding a pint glass and threw it at Condie’s head, striking the right side of her face causing her to fall to the ground.”
The court heard Condie was able to get to her feet a few minutes later and her partner, the witness Davidson, then approached Stirling and assaulted him.
Mr Stark added: “Police attended and noted a one-inch laceration to Condie’s cheek which was bleeding and she was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where she was treated by a doctor and they formed the opinion this injury would cause permanent disfigurement.”
Mr Stark also explained Police Scotland issued a media appeal for witnesses which resulted in Stirling handing himself in.
He explained: “On October 26, Stirling attended at Paisley police office and PC Buxton spoke with the accused who stated, ‘it was me that done it, I saw the media appeal and was horrified’.
“Stirling was cautioned, arrested and replied, ‘I tried to throw a drink over the lassie to stop her coming at me, she was trying to attack me. It was the fourth time and my glass has accidentally slipped out of my hand and hit her in the face.’
“Stirling was then processed in the usual manner.”
Defence agent Jim Clarke told how this incident will “always be a matter Stirling regrets”.
Mr Clarke added: “Reports would assist the court here, he has no record.
“There has been an exchange between the two and for reasons unknown, the complainer had been pulling his beard and there was a suggestion she spat at him.
“What happened outside the pub will be a life changing for Mr Stirling no matter the outcome.”
Sheriff Tom McCartney deferred sentence for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment.
Stirling’s bail order was continued and he will return to court for sentencing on April 3.
